In a joint effort by the Maltese Resuscitation Council and Tigne Judo Club, a course in Basic Life Support was held on Saturday 28th June on the tatami at the club?s dojo in Marsa. It was the first time that a group of non-medical candidates were assessed and certified by both the Maltese and European Resuscitation Councils. In another innovative move, the candidates, all members of the club, included a mixed group of adults and children. All the participants were successful in the administration of Basic Life Support.
It is hoped, by the MRC, that in the future this will make Basic Life Support available to a wider range of people from an earlier age thereby helping to decrease the mortality from cardiac collapse.
